Character's name: Shinichi Kudou
Character's age: 7
Fandom the character is from: Detective Conan
Point in canon they're being taken from: 10 years preseries
Background: (Seeing as I intend to take Shinichi from his much, much younger years there is only so much history that can be offered that isn't just speculation, being in first grade means that his history is relatively short. Everything else feeds into his personality. )
Shinichi is the son of a retired actress, Yukiko Kudo, and a world famous author, Yuusaku Kudo. His mother retired after she turned twenty so that she could live the life of a normal Japanese housewife. His father continued to write his best selling series ‘Night Baron and started helping the police force out with certain cases and frequently brought his young son along with him, exposing the young boy to large number of horrific murders and desensitizing him to dead bodies.
At a very early age Shinichi showed signs of having the potential to become a great detective as his mother is convinced he helps her locate her solve a riddle left by her husband despite the fact her son isn't even two years old at the time. As he gets older his love of mysteries grows and at some point he decides that just reading mysteries isn't enough any more and he begins looking for cases around town, usually dragging his friend, Ran Mouri along on many of his adventures.
Personality:
[Little Shinichi's level of comprehension, knowledge, logic and reasoning far exceeds that of a normal little boy. By the age of seven he's already read an impressive number of adult mystery novels including his all time favorite, Sherlock Holmes. Quite an impressive feat for a first grader! More impressive still is the fact he was able to comprehend every word he read of the entire series as well as several other mystery novels. This means that at the age of seven he already has the intelligence of a slightly above average adult, a fact he is very well aware of.
However, because he's aware of just how smart he is he's convinced himself that he's A) The smartest person in the room, B) The most mature person in the room, or C) Both. And it's usually both. If he sees a person as either less intelligent or less mature than him he finds it extremely difficult to develop any kind of real respect for that person. His parents are a perfect example as he easily respects their intelligence but since he views himself as more mature than they are, cannot respect them in way a child should respect his parents. He loves them, but he cannot respect them past a professional level and treats them as if they're the immature ones. Unfortunately, in this case, he's right as both Yuusaku and Yukiko like to make spontaneous decisions and up and leave on vacation whenever the urge strikes them. Given their childish nature it is unlikely that they always make it a point to let Shinichi know when or even where they're going, leaving their young son to either fend for himself or take refuge with the family friend and next door neighbor Agasa, who is possibly the only adult, at the time, that Shinichi respects as an adult. Later in life he learns to respect quite a few people but as a child there is only about two people he truly respects, those being; Agasa, and his friend Ran Mouri.
He's quite popular in school, possibly because of his raw intelligence, his knack for soccer and any other outdoor activity he puts his mind to, or an odd mix of both. Or perhaps it's his bravery that makes his classmates want to hang around him. He takes a very strong stance against the belief in any thing supernatural and even goes out of his way to prove that such nonsense doesn't exist. Whatever the reason for his classmates loyalty to him is, he enjoys every last bit of the attention. Meaning that even though he's only a seven year old boy he's already become an arrogant little brat.
While gets along with other children on a surface level he does not get along with them any deeper than that as he does not know how socialize with children his own age-or anyone for that matter. He's very well aware he's nothing like his classmates as his favorite subjects are murder mysteries and Sherlock Holmes. Neither are subjects a normal seven year old would appreciate. He does have one friend that appreciates his love of all things Sherlock Holmes and mysteries and that is the friend he's had since birth-Ran Mouri. She isn't nearly as intelligent as he is but she makes efforts to share his interests which he meets by getting her things like the Sherlock Holmes books as a birthday present. He clearly encourages her desire to be on level with him.
The Sherlock Holmes series impacts his life in every way possible as it is Sherlock Holmes, not Yuusaku Kudou that inspires young Shinichi to become a detective. Holmes is his very definition of the perfect detective-genius, mature, and composed with observations skills beatable only by his brother Mycroft. Because Shinichi is so thoroughly and completely smitten by the legendary detective and his methods that he lives his life by the rule: What Would Holmes Do? And it's applied to every little aspect of his life and not just his methods as a detective. This means he goes looking for adventure and cases to test his developing skills.
His parents have a very hands off approach when it comes to raising their son in that, so long as he comes back okay they see no reason to get involved. They are so out of tune with their son's life and what he gets up to that it would be far more accurate to say Shinichi raised himself using his beloved Sherlock Holmes as a guideline. He is so unaccustomed to the idea of discipline that he develops a negative reaction to Ran's mom who is appropriately against the the idea of two seven year old children wandering about the city unaccompanied by an adult.
It was mentioned that Shinichi is generally convinced he's more mature than any person he's talking to, but it's worth noting that this is only what he thinks. His arrogance, stubbornness, tendency to look down on others, and flat out refusal to listen to anyone is all evidence that he is still very immature and has a lot to learn.

Oh come on! I was in the middle of solving a riddle. If I don't solve it then it'll look like I just gave up and Dad told me to never back down from a challenge. Now I'll never know what the solution to this dump riddle is. [ He shakes a worn looking piece of paper. ] Or, I don't know.. maybe someone on here can solve it. You might need some existing knowledge of how to write in Japanese though.
[ He holds the paper up, it's a complicated riddle probably a bit advanced for a seven year old. ] But it's true I'll never get the next clue, even if I do solve this one. [ He lets out an irritated sigh and stores the paper back into his pocket. ]
Anyways, I'm Shinichi and the welcome committee needs to not touch people upon first arriving. I may be seven but I don't need to be cuddled or mothered at and I definitely don't need a hug. Before anyone asks-yes, I really am seven, no I'm not scared or traumatised. I'm just annoyed. I was having fun solving those codes!
